Titans head coach Brian Callahan details what makes new WR Tyler Boyd an 'impactful' addition
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan clearly has outlined a specific role for the team's newest wide receiver Tyler Boyd.

Earlier in the week, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler was reported that wide receiver Tyler Boyd and the Tennessee Titans had reached an agreement on a one-year deal worth $4.5 million.

Boyd spent eight seasons in Cincinnati and worked alongside Brian Callahan who served as the team's offensive coordinator for the past five seasons before being hired away by the Titans.

Boyd is a welcomed addition to a Titans wide receiver room that now boasts a top-10 trio in the NFL. However it isn't just Boyd's on-field production that makes him a valuable asset to Callahan as the two begin a new chapter in Tennessee.

"Tyler is a slot receiver, that's what he does. That's where he's made his money, that's where his production has come from," Callahan told reporters on Thursday.

Boyd racked up 67 catches for 667 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 2023. He did most of his damage out of the slot recording 51 catches for 508 receiving yards and one touchdown when lining up inside last season.

The stats are fine and dandy, but Boyd's veteran presence and familiarity in Callahan's system make for the perfect fit in Music City.

"Most importantly I think he's an awesome addition to the locker room," said Callahan. "He's a great human being, great worker, and everything about him is what we want to be about. To add him is an impactful add for us and [I'm] excited about it."

The Titans have now surrounded quarterback Will Levis with three top options checking in at 29 years of age or older. While some might knock this unit for being one of the oldest trios in the league, the experience between DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley and Boyd should serve as a benefit to Levis' development entering his first season as the team's full-time starter.
