New Orleans Saints Could Sign Pro Bowl Free Agent Defender
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Saints are in need of a safety after the departure of Marcus Maye, and Dan Pizzuta of The 33rd Team thinks they would be a great fit for Quandre Diggs.

Diggs was cut by the Seattle Seahawks earlier this offseason and remains unsigned.

The 31-year-old is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played every game and registered 95 tackles, an interception and five passes defended, so he is still productive.

Diggs is also just two years removed from making his third straight Pro Bowl appearance after totaling 71 tackles, four picks, a forced fumble and seven passes defended in 2022.

Diggs, who played his collegiate football at the University of Texas, was originally selected by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four-and-a-half years of his career with the Lions, but did not become a starter until his third season when he tallied 55 tackles, a sack, three interceptions, a forced fumble and nine passes defended. The following year, Diggs recorded 78 tackles, three picks, eight passes defended and a defensive touchdown.

Detroit then traded Diggs to the Seahawks midway through the 2019 campaign. The next season, Diggs broke out, racking up 64 tackles, five interceptions and 10 passes defended en route to his first Pro Bowl appearance. Then, in 2020, Diggs rattled off 94 stops, five picks and seven passes defended.

The Houston native may not be the same player he once was, but there is no question he can still be a solid contributor in a team’s secondary, and for a club like the Saints that is definitely in need of a safety next to Tyrann Mathieu, Diggs could end up being a great addition.

New Orleans went 9-8 and missed the playoffs this past eason.
